“Once again we were right there. For the first half of the race we were biding our time, and I really think we were exactly where we needed to be tire wise if it came down to a tire race. But then the track took rubber, and I couldn’t make up any more ground. We also broke something in the front end with about ten laps to go, and we were thankfully able to limp it home to a fifth-place finish,” Weiss commented. “It seems like we are a contender every night, no matter who we race with or where we race. That makes it really fun for our team.”
On Thursday night Ricky Weiss was in action at Mansfield Motor Speedway (Mansfield, Ohio) as the second annual Dirt Million weekend came to life. With 56 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries in action, Weiss advanced one spot in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory. After starting second on the gird for the 30-lap preliminary feature, Ricky notched a fourth-place finish behind Jonathan Davenport, Chase Junghans, and Bobby Pierce.
The following night found another round of preliminary features on the docket, and Ricky recorded a fourth-place finish in his heat race, which positioned him 10th on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Weiss gained three spots to finish seventh.
Starting on the pole of his heat race on Saturday afternoon, Weiss streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory, which locked him into the 11th-starting position for the $101,626-to-win Dirt Million. Breaking into the Top-5, Ricky gained six spots in the 100-lapper to claim a fifth-place finish in the $101,626-to-win finale behind Brandon Sheppard, Mike Marlar, Chase Junghans, and Jimmy Owens.
