Weiss scores a pair of podium finishes at Cedar Lake

Taking part in the Fourth of July weekend special, Ricky Weiss headed to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) on Thursday evening for the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series sanctioned program. With the Top 12 qualifiers from the first time trial session getting inverted, Weiss laid down the eighth fastest time, which positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the $3,000-to-win Elimination Showdown. After eliminating the four drivers in three 5-lap segments, the final eight cars would battle in the 8-lap shootout. Competing with Cade Dillard in the closing laps, Ricky crossed the line 0.172 seconds ahead of Dillard, but race officials penalized him three positions after they found a missing piece of rubber on the droop limiter. He was credited with a fourth place finish behind Dillard, Rodney Sanders, and Brandon Sheppard with Darrell Lanigan coming in fifth. (Jacy Norgaard photo)

On Friday evening for the $20,000 prize, Ricky secured his spot into the show with a second place finish in his heat behind Scott Bloomquist. Holding his spot for all 40-laps, Weiss notched a third place finish behind Ashton Winger and Brandon Sheppard with Dennis Erb Jr. and Darrell Lanigan rounding out the Top-5.

For the finale on Saturday night, Weiss posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Brandon Sheppard, which positioned him third on the starting grid for the $20,000-to-win finale. After falling outside the Top 3 early, Ricky overtook Dennis Erb Jr. for third near the midway point and came up short of passing Cade Dillard late in the 40-lapper to place 3rd behind Brandon Sheppard and Cade Dillard with Dennis Erb Jr. and Jimmy Mars completing the Top-5 finishers.

Ricky is currently in second in the latest World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings.
