Weiss charges to Top 10 finish in Firecracker 100

On Thursday afternoon Ricky Weiss was en route to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) for the 14th annual Firecracker 100 but mechanical issues in his trailer sent him on a detour before arriving at the speedway just at the feature was taking the track. Receiving a provisional into the $6,000-to-win prelim, Weiss piloted Colton Flinner’s secondary Late Model to a 21st place finish in the 25-lap affair.

The following night after engine issues in hot laps forced him to pull out his secondary car for time trials, Weiss laid down the 13th fastest time before placing seventh in his heat. Grabbing the third and final transfer spot in his B-Main, Ricky locked into the 22nd-starting position for the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature. Jumping up two spots in the 25-lap affair, Weiss logged a 20th place outing.

On Saturday evening with preliminary results setting the grid for heat races, Ricky posted a sixth place finish in his heat, transferring him into the B-Main. Streaking to a 10-lap consolation victory, Weiss locked into the 17th-starting position for the Firecracker 100. With $30,000 on the line, Ricky Weiss advanced through the field nine spots to place eighth.

Ricky sits in second in the latest World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings.
