Ricky Weiss races to sixth-place finish I-80 Nationals finale

Ricky Weiss joined the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Tuesday as the tour invaded I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Neb.) to kick off five consecutive nights of racing. Drawing 43 cars for the I-80 Nationals prelim, Weiss clocked in sixth fastest in his group before placing fourth in his heat. With passing points setting the grid for the preliminary feature, Ricky passed five cars in the 30-lapper to finish ninth. (Heath Lawson photo)

For another $7,000-to-win preliminary feature on Wednesday, Ricky jumped up two spots in his heat race to pick up the win. Rolling off sixth for the A-Main, Weiss advanced forward four spots to register a runner-up finish. He followed Tyler Erb across the line with Ricky Thornton Jr., Brandon Overton, and Stormy Scott rounding out the Top-5.

With preliminary results from Tuesday and Wednesday placing Weiss second on the starting grid for the Thursday night’s $30,000-to-win I-80 Nationals finale, Ricky faded four spots in the 53-lap affair to register a sixth-place finish.

On Friday for a pair of heat races to get the 11th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals underway, Ricky rebounded in his second heat to pick up the win after placing seventh in the first round.

Locked into the 16th-starting position for the $53,000-to-win main event on Saturday evening, Weiss charged forward four spots in the 80-lapper to finish 12th.
