Ricky Weiss scores fourth-place finish in Dream opener

On Wednesday afternoon Ricky Weiss visited the famed Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) to kick off the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream week with four nights of racing. With the 74-car field split into two separate groups for a pair of preliminary features, Ricky followed up the sixth fastest time in his group with a 12-lap heat race victory. Earning the third-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Weiss dropped one spot in the 25-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish. He trailed Brandon Overton, Kyle Bronson, and Chad Simpson to the checkers with Chris Ferguson coming in fifth. (Josh James Artwork)

With preliminary results on Wednesday night lining him up on the front row of his heat on Thursday afternoon, Ricky faded late in the 15-lapper to record a fifth-place finish. Earning a provisional into the main event, Weiss advanced forward seven spots in the 100-lap affair to finish 12th.

On Friday afternoon for another round of preliminary features, Weiss followed up the sixth fastest time in his group with a third-place finish in his heat race. Pulling off early in the 25-lap A-Main, Ricky was the second retiree of the race on the 10th lap.

Rolling off fifth in his heat race on Saturday evening, Ricky posted a runner-up finish behind Ricky Thornton Jr., which positioned him eighth on the starting grid for the $126,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream. Getting caught in a tangle in the first half of the race, Weiss was forced to pull off after a lap-32 melee with another competitor.
