Top-5 finish in DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals finale at Volusia

Ricky Weiss invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Thursday afternoon to kick off his third year on tour with World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series with the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals. Drawing 38 cars for the three-day event, Weiss fell short of a transfer position in his heat with a seventh place finish, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Failing to place third or better, Ricky was granted a provisional into the A-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, Weiss passed 16 cars in the 40-lapper to register a seventh-place finish.

After persistent rain wiped out Friday night’s portion of the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals, Ricky edged his way into the $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday evening with the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 15th, Weiss marched through the field 11 spots to score a fourth-place finish behind Kyle Strickler, Scott Bloomquist, and Darrell Lanigan with Jimmy Owens coming in fifth. With the first weekend in the books, Ricky is currently third in the World of Outlaws point standings.
